NYSHealth Webinar: "COVID-19 and Its Impact on Survivors of Domestic Violence"

Jackie Pappalardi and Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

NYSHealth invites you to attend its webinar series, "Practically Speaking," that will share actionable ideas to better serve New Yorkers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on survivors of domestic violence and their families in the New York City metropolitan areas.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, about 1 in 4 women and nearly 1 in 10 men experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner. The increased financial and health stressors that accompany the coronavirus pandemic have caused surges in domestic violence worldwide.

Social distancing, crucial to limiting the spread of COVID-19, often requires survivors to shelter in place with their abusers. As the social, economic, and public health environments have increased the risk of domestic violence, survivors' access to resources has also been constrained.

Please join us for a webinar with Ashleigh Washington, M.S.W., Senior Director of Learning and Staff Development at Safe Horizon. Ms. Washington will examine the emotional, psychological, and economic implications of COVID-19 for survivors of domestic violence and discuss strategies for supporting them.

Webinar Date:

Tuesday, July 21, 2020

12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The webinar will feature a short discussion followed by audience Q&A.
