MDS Certification Deadline Approaching

Carl J. Pucci in Finance & Reimbursement

DOH held a conference call earlier today with state and regional associations, noting that a majority of nursing homes still have not matched their MDS resident data. Once matched, providers then must certify their MDS data via an email to no later than January 8, 2021.

No extensions to this deadline will be given, as to do so would jeopardize the issuance of the July 2020 rate package by state fiscal year-end.

Below is the DOH email sent to providers with further information:

The deadline for completing your MDS is fast approaching, particularly in light of the upcoming holidays. We have roughly half of all providers matched, but only have 25 certifications. If you have matched and have concluded your review of your MDS data, please submit your certification as soon as possible. If you have not concluded your review, please take the time to complete that now, so that you are able to certify your MDS data in advance of the deadline of January 8th. In order to calculate the July 2020 rates, and provide you with a rate prior to the end of the state fiscal year, we are unable to extend that deadline beyond January 8, 2021.

To contact the Bureau for assistance in matching and to submit your certification, please send an e-mail to or you can fax to (518) 402 – 5392. If you have already contacted the Bureau for assistance with the current collection, there is no need to send an additional email. One of the staff will address your issue as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention.
