Jackie Pappalardi and Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion has notified several providers that their nursing home was added to a group in the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) through which the Department of Health (DOH) can access facility-specific data from the NHSN under a Health Department Data Use Agreements (DUAs) with NHSN. Under the DUA, the DOH can access facility-specific data from the NHSN for purposes of surveillance and prevention only. The DOH cannot use the data for any public reporting of facility-specific data or any regulatory or punitive actions against healthcare institutions. The full text of the DUA and a list of the facility-specific data that the health department can access as part of the DUA can be found on CDC's State-Based Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Prevention website at http://www.cdc.gov/HAI/state-based/index.html.
